The mass education aims to level the playing field by addressing information asymmetry, crucial for enhancing social mobility. While the internet has made information readily available at our fingertips, it hasn’t significantly improved social mobility. However, the advent of AI holds promise in rectifying this disparity.

In understanding how information symmetry shapes civilization and social mobility, we recognize that individuals’ comprehension of available information propels them forward. Although education, especially mass education, diminishes information asymmetry, our current educational practices often prioritize rote memorization over deep understanding, hindering true upward mobility.

The current educational delivery format relies heavily on memorization, neglecting the crucial aspect of understanding. The original intent was to foster social mobility through meritocracy, but the emphasis on assessing knowledge rather than understanding has skewed this objective.

Social mobility entails more than just receiving a good education. Despite the belief that education can bridge social gaps, evidence suggests otherwise. An educational arms race has ensued, leaving economically disadvantaged children ill-prepared to compete, while the offspring of the elite continue to reap greater rewards.

While the internet provides vast information accessibility, the key lies in curating relevant information and ensuring comprehension to drive action or advancement. However, the current educational system, reliant on individual teachers or counselors, struggles to effectively disseminate nuanced information to the masses.

Advancements in AI offer hope in this regard. AI can curate, disseminate, and assess understanding on a scale previously unattainable. Traditional investments have often fallen short in translating to tangible outcomes, but AI has the potential to change this narrative.

By leveraging recent AI advancements, we can bridge information asymmetry, foster interaction, and establish a feedback loop to effectively train algorithms. AI can serve as a critical facilitator in curating, disseminating, suggesting, personalizing, customizing, and mitigating biases in information delivery. Establishing information symmetry through AI is imperative for achieving the true social mobility we aspire to.
