Buyers ask AI who to choose. You are not in the answer.

Half of B2B buyers now start with a chatbot. It hands them a shortlist, and most brands are not on it.

What changed

A buyer used to assemble their own shortlist from search results. Now a machine assembles it for them, with reasons attached. G2's 2026 buyer survey found 51% of B2B software buyers start their research in an AI chatbot, up from 29% in April 2025, and 69% changed vendor because of what the chatbot told them. The moment you are selected or skipped happens before anyone reaches your website.

Why your traffic falls even when you rank

Pew Research found people click a link on 8% of searches that show an AI summary, against 15% of searches without one, and only about 1% click a source the summary cites. Ranking still matters, but it no longer ends in a visit. The page's job changed: it has to be usable by the machine writing the answer.

The part most brands get wrong

Being mentioned is not being chosen. An answer can use your page as a source and never say your name, and a buyer learns nothing about you. We measure where a brand actually sits on the ladder from existing, to retrieved, to cited, to named, to recommended, per engine, rather than reporting one number called visibility.

What we do about it

We ask the engines the questions your buyers ask, record who wins and why, and work the four forces that move the answer: whether machines can find and trust what you own, whether the third-party sources they quote carry you, whether your pages say anything the cited sources do not, and whether you read as distinct once several brands are in the answer.

Questions

Is this the same as SEO?

It shares the plumbing and changes the goal. Search ranked pages for people to click. Answer engines assemble a shortlist and most readers never click, so the work is being usable, quotable and nameable inside the answer.

Can you guarantee an AI will recommend us?

No, and nobody can. Editorial trust is earned rather than bought. What we can do is find where you are being excluded, and build the evidence, clarity and third-party corroboration that make you easier to retrieve, cite, name and choose.

How do you measure it without a vendor dashboard?

We run a panel of your buyers' real questions across engines and record the answers. One run proves nothing on its own: repeat readings of the same question disagree more often than people assume, so we read the trend, never a single snapshot.
