New 3R's of Education:
Reasoning, Resilience & Responsibility

Our tutoring system incorporates the new 3R's
We're all familiar with the old-fashioned curriculum ofthe 3 R's - reading, irking, and trithmetic, but Robert Sternberg of Tufts University has called for a curriculum that centers on developing student competence in what he calls lithe other 3 Ris."
In this case, the R's stand for "Reasoning" which include analytical, critical thinking, and problem sotving skills, "ResiLi en ce" which encorn passes Life skilLs such as flexibility, adaptability, and se If- reliance, and "Responsibility" which Sternberg Linksto wisdom, which he defines as "'the application of intelligence, creativity, and knowLedge for a common good,'
An education that focuses only on the consumption of information prepares students for the past, for an antiquated system and a "Real World" that exists more in memory than in reality. lf anything, it predisposes students to be unprepared for what they will. encounter.

learning analytics

Learning analytics don't just measure students' progress – they can shape it
Learning analytics draw on the expertise of data miners, who find and make use of patterns in big datasets. They combine this with pedagogy – the things we know about teaching, learning and assessment.
Analytics make use of the digital traces left by learners in online learning environments in order to improve teaching and learning and the environments in which these take place.

mindfulness in education

...
Mindfulness practice give students a concrete set of tools and life skills to help them do just that. We want the kids to be actively learning about themselves and the world around them. In the classroom it might mean paying attention to what is being taught. It may also mean paying attention to better understand habits of distraction or disinterest.
Often students are stunned in their ability to learn or recall information due to emotional, social and environmental stresses. Mindfulness practice provides the means to help navigate the challenges they encounter, helping them feel more empowered in the face of difficult emotions, low self esteem, and peer pressures. Mindfulness is not a cure-all to life's difficulty's but can be a foundation to help cultivate inner resilience and wisdom.
Teachers who have used mindfulness in their classrooms have reported that students who practice mindfulness are calmer. There are less classroom management issues and less fights on the playground.

arts integration in learning

Years of research show that it's closely linked to almost everything that we as a nation say we want for our children and demand from our schools: academic achievement, social and emotional development, civic engagement, and equitable opportunity.Involvement in the arts is associated with gains in math, reading, cognitive ability, critical thinking, and verbal skill.
Arts learning can also improve motivation, concentration, confidence, and teamwork.
A 2005report by the Rand Corporation about the visual arts argues that the intrinsic pleasures and stimulation of the art experience do more than sweeten an individual's life -- according to the report, they "can connect people more deeply to the world and open them to new ways of seeing," creating the foundation to forge social bonds and community cohesion.
